Shui-Tein Chen 박사는 현재 대만중앙연구원(Academia Sinica, Taiwan) 생화학연구소의 선임연구원으로 재직하고 있다.

Chen 박사는 1978년 대만 Tam-Kang 대학교에서 화학공학으로 학사학위를 취득하였고, 1985에는 미국 Univ. of Nevada. Reno에서 화학으로 석사학위를 취득하였다. 그 후 대만중앙연구원 생화학연구소 주임연구원으로 활동하면서 대만 국립대학교에서 Biochemical Sciences 분야로 박사학위를 취득하였으며, 미국 Texas A&M University에서 2년간 방문과학자로 연구를 수행하였다. 그 후 전임연구원을 거쳐 오늘에 이르고 있다.

그의 주요 연구분야는 Organic Synthesis 에서의 촉매제로써의 효소 이용, 생리활성물질의 화학적 합성, 생명과학의 Systems Biology적 접근이며, 최근까지 Proteomics를 비롯한 약 200여 편에 이르는 수 많은 논문으로 커다란 연구 성과를 내었다. 이 업적을 인정받아 2000년에는 미국 정부혁신범정부협의회 (National Partnership Reinventing Government)로부터 "Enzymes in Large-Scale Organic Synthesis" 란 주제로 Green Chemistry Challenge Award를 수상하기도 하였다.
